What Is Injury & Rehabilitative Bodywork?
When the body sustains an injury — whether from an accident, sport, surgery, or repetitive strain — it responds by guarding and compensating. Over time, this protective tension creates adhesions, scar tissue, and trigger points that limit movement and perpetuate pain long after the original injury has healed.
Injury and rehabilitative bodywork at Keystone Body Therapies is a clinical soft tissue therapy that targets these specific muscles and structures. Rather than working broadly across muscle groups, your therapist focuses precisely on the injured and affected tissues to release trigger points, break down adhesions, restore circulation, and accelerate the body’s natural healing process.
The result: reduced pain, increased tissue pliability, improved joint range of motion, and a shorter overall recovery timeline.

What Injuries and Conditions Does It Treat?
Our injury and rehabilitative bodywork sessions are designed to address both acute and chronic soft tissue conditions, including:
| ✓Sports injuries (strains, sprains, pulls, overuse injuries) | ✓Motor vehicle accident recovery (whiplash, soft tissue trauma) |
| ✓Post-surgical rehabilitation | ✓Rotator cuff injuries and shoulder impingement |
| ✓Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow | ✓Plantar fasciitis and foot/ankle injuries |
| ✓IT band syndrome and knee pain | ✓Neck injuries and cervicogenic headaches |
| ✓Chronic low back pain and lumbar strain | ✓Repetitive stress injuries (carpal tunnel, tendinitis) |
If you’re dealing with an injury that isn’t resolving with rest alone, rehabilitative bodywork can bridge the gap between the initial injury and full functional recovery.
How the Treatment Works
Your therapist begins every rehabilitative session by identifying not just where your pain is, but why it’s there. Injuries rarely exist in isolation — surrounding muscles compensate and become part of the dysfunction. Your therapist will assess the full movement pattern to identify all contributing tissues.
Treatment then focuses on releasing trigger points and adhesions in the specific muscles involved, restoring healthy tissue quality and normal circulation. Gentle assisted movement may be incorporated to re-educate the neuromuscular pathways and ensure your body moves properly as it heals.
Sessions are progressive — each one builds on the last as your body responds and recovers. Most clients notice improved pain levels and function within their first few visits.

Frequently Asked Questions — Injury & Rehabilitative Bodywork
Can I come in right after an injury?
For acute injuries (within the first 48–72 hours), we recommend following standard RICE protocol first. Once the acute inflammatory phase has passed, rehabilitative bodywork is highly effective and can significantly shorten recovery time. When in doubt, call us and we’ll advise on timing.
Is this covered by insurance?
We recommend checking with your individual insurance provider. Many of our clients use HSA/FSA accounts for sessions. We’re happy to provide documentation for your records.
How is this different from physical therapy?
Physical therapy often focuses on strengthening exercises and joint mobility. Rehabilitative bodywork zeroes in on the soft tissue quality itself — releasing adhesions, trigger points, and scar tissue that prevent full recovery. The two approaches are complementary and many clients benefit from doing both.
How many sessions will I need for my injury?
Every injury is different. Minor soft tissue injuries may resolve in 2–4 sessions, while more complex or chronic conditions may require an ongoing plan. Your therapist will give you a clear, honest assessment after your first visit.
